@happilyretired @sssportsmfg you guys are well respected growers. I think you guys ARE some of the best growers on here.
Here here. I second that motion!
@PreyBird1 @Slym3r … I believe I speak for myself and Marty when I say thank you. Much respect.
Got the plants mostly ready for the long haul. These plants will go from this size to at least 6 foot tall in the next five or six weeks.
Nice set up you got going there Hap
Thanks, sir. I appreciate it.
Looking awesome as usual Sir.
Oh hell ya! Now that’s the Hap I know.
Marty
Here’s a good example of the difference between in a pot/bag and in the ground. These are two identical clones. Started at the same time.
Absolutely, nothing better than in the ground!!
I set up my 4 x 5 tent up last Monday with auto pots. Put 4 clones in there. I was going to veg for a week or so. But three out of the four decided they wanted to go straight into flower so here we are
(I wrote this three days ago, got distracted and forgot to post.
were they under short hours before you transplanted them Hap?
Marty
Nope. I brought them in from outside. Put them on gas lantern, didn’t work. They went to flower.
That’s the strange lighting schedule is it not ? I have never tried it.
Marty
Yes, it’s strange. But it works, apparently just not when you bring them in from outside.
The “lantern effect” in the context of grow lights refers to a practice of disrupting a plant’s natural light cycle with a brief period of light during its dark phase.
This practice is also known as the Gas Lantern Routine (GLR) or the Gaslight Technique. It’s primarily used with short-day plants during their vegetative stage, typically to improve growth and potentially increase yields.
Here’s how it generally works:
- Vegetative Stage: Instead of a standard 18 hours of light and 6 hours of darkness (18/6), the GLR routine uses a shorter day length like a 12/12 photoperiod, but with a brief, 1-hour period of light in the middle of the dark period. This brief light interruption prevents the plants from transitioning into the flowering stage, even though they receive the appropriate hormonal signals for flowering.
- Flowering Stage: When growers decide to initiate flowering, they simply remove the hour of light interruption during the dark period, allowing the plants to transition into their flowering cycle. Some may gradually reduce the light hours to mimic the natural shortening of seasons, moving towards a 9 hours on / 15 hours off schedule in the later weeks of flowering.
Potential benefits
- Energy Savings: By providing less overall light, the GLR technique can potentially lead to lower electricity consumption and a cooler growing environment.
- Increased Growth and Yield: Proponents of the GLR technique claim that plants grown with this method show vigorous growth spurts during the vegetative stage and may even flower earlier, potentially leading to higher yields.
- Mimics Natural Conditions: The technique aims to replicate a more natural light cycle, which is believed to be beneficial for cannabis, an outdoor plant species.
Considerations
- Strain Sensitivity: The effectiveness of the GLR technique can vary depending on the specific cannabis strain being grown.
- Increased Monitoring: This method may require more attentive monitoring and adjustments compared to traditional lighting schedules.
- Potential Impact on Performance: While anecdotal evidence suggests positive results, the long-term impact on plant performance may require more extensive research and experimentation to fully understand.
The use of the lantern effect or GLR is a specialized technique that some cannabis growers employ to manipulate plant growth and potentially improve yield while reducing energy consumption.
I asked the tech at Fohse if they could add it to there controller he said he never heard of it .I don’t think it would be hard for them to do it since there controller runs on android operating system
They would just have to add 1 more on off feature to lights program
Since when does the sun come out in the middle of the night lol ???
Marty
In alaska! But it doesnt turn off first lol.
I run glr. It has worked for me for a while now.
I really like those autopots. I just finished harvesting 4 plants from auto pots and im about to reset the system. But i actually got another new 4x4 tent. Ive been using the same gorilla tent for 6yrs and im going to replace it with a new vivosun for $120 vs $300 for a gorilla tent. After using so many brands of tents over the years. I have come to the conclusion that its a tent and it doesnt matter who makes it ist just a tent. Ive used 5 brands of tents. These tents can get expensive and honestly ive grown big ass plants and killer bud in a crappy closet with no reflective sides just white paint on one side a bare wood on the other side. No need to spend a bunch of money on the tent. I try and find them locally new. Surprisingly loads of people here in UT but all this equipment and never use it or give up and sell all the stuff they have. I got 4 tents this way for ultra cheap. And yes i did have 10 tents but i have one of my 6x4x80 2 in 1 grow tents to my neighbor. Im also going to give him this old gorilla tent. Were setting him up a grow hopefully soon.
