Introduce yourself!

Hi, my name is Cody. I’m excited to see a site like this, especially getting in on what seems to be ground level. I hope it becomes a truly valuable resource for the industry. I am happy to be here with you fine people, and I will strive to do my best when it comes to citizenship and accuracy in data.

I am both a commercial and a private grower. I have a degree in Horticulture Production and a background of diversified organic farming. My current commercial grow has just transitioned from soiless media to living organic soil. Our methods could also be described as low-till/no-till. I love the attention to detail in this industry - the physiology and the biology are so much more involved when a crop is worth so much. I research as much as I can get away with, and I would be happy to help anyone in need with short consultations on this site for no charge. I also look forward to learning from all of you and having some diverse growing conversations!

I also make and listen to all sorts of music, predominantly I play rock music with a band called Stilted.

Great to be here.

Welcome @jbcreel7! Talk about cannabis trees! What are your favorite cultivars to grow? And your story is in inspiration to the rest of us. :slight_smile:

Hi @Cody! I’ve seen you around the site a little bit, it’s great to see people excited about cannabis and Growers Network. The interest in the plant and horticulture are what makes this industry unique. Having lived with an avid gardener my whole life (my mother), I’ve never met any other group or groups of people so passionate.

Hello everyone, my name is Alex and I am the head grower for Avitas located in Salem, Oregon. Avitas is a Tier 2 producer and processor in the recreational market. I used to grow in the 502 market up in Washington but recently came down to the Salem facility to try and get things going.

A litle about my growing style: I run perpetual flower rooms, 4 x 1250 Sq. Ft rooms. 56 1000 Watt gavitas per room, 2 Dehu’s and 6 Water Chillers for AC. Drip Irrigation with standard manifolds and spaghetti lines (no emitters). Supplemented CO2 in all flower rooms and veg.

I harvest my early blooming indica strains one week and the following week is the sativa or late flowering strains from the same room. At the end of the week the same room is cleaned and new plants are brought into the flower room to begin another cycle. The following week is the next flower room etc.

I run a hybrid type of soil with amendments. 50/50 mix of Peat moss and perlite as a base, worm compost, fish compost, biochar, neem cake, crab meal dolomite lime etc.

I am still getting used to the new facility and just started to harvest our first crop. It is definitely the first pancake and could use improvements! Over time I will nail down all the little things asnd dial this place in but I am excited to be on this forum amongst many intelligent and diligent farmers/cultivators!

I will have questions, and so will many of you I’m sure! Hopefully we can all work as a team to solve any hiccups we all have and make this community close in comparison to many other forums out there!

Hi All;

My name’s Greg and I’m with a company called ThermoSoil – we make smart heating systems for plants targeting the root zone area. The systems are modular, scale-able and extremely energy efficient. Perfect for greenhouse growers and outdoor growers – designed to heat only the root zone of the plant so that heat/energy/money is not wasted on heating ambient air (the leafy parts of the plant can support a much wider temperature range than the roots). The system can scale from a single 2g pot to thousands of pots up to 300g. Did I mention that they are extremely affordable? The ROI on these is great, because the plants grow faster, healthier and have bigger yields – we’re trying to figure out if this has any effect on potency. We’ve been doing heating systems for 20 years, developing our plant solution for about 4 years and are just bringing it to the cannabis market. Feel free to ask questions, I look at all discussions as a learning opportunity for me.

Personally I’ve been in this industry a short time, but have been a fan for many years :wink:

My ‘hobbies’ are photography and videos… I’ve been a jack of many trades for many years… and am loving the new position where I get to talk science and growing with people who know more than I do – so I get to learn all the time.

Looking forward to getting some more knowledge here!

Welcome @greg.s! That’s pretty nifty. I know that some growers struggle with having chilled water (to prevent contamination) and warming it up to the root zone (which plants like). Good to see that there’s a system designed to scale with that in mind.

@Hunter

Thanks! Just to be clear this our system is not designed for hydroponic systems but rather soil/other growing medium where it might be harder to target the root zone the way it’s possible with hydroponic. But we’re looking at hydroponic options too, because I’m told that maintaining water temp can be tricky…

I am Emanuele,

Thank you for the invite to this community, @nicholas, and hello to everyone here! I am truly inspired by this vibrant community :slight_smile:

As a technology enthusiast, software engineer and lover of EmberJS, I am happy to see we’re using Discourse!

My role in the legal cannabis industry is crafting software: my (1 man, 6 years old) company brought to market PharmWare Cannabis LIMS, which is an invaluable tool for cannabis laboratories owners. You can see it in use here. I also collaborated pro-bono with the CESC - Clinical Endocannabinoid System Consortium to develop an application for running clinical trials on pain and insomnia mitigation thought cannabis. It’s really hard to choose what project will come next, but I have many prototypes ready to go! :wink:

What really excites me is that the best part of the cannabis renaissance is yet to come !!

p.s. I am always looking for part-time/full-time programmers, interns, platform evangelists and individuals who love to sell (I really don't like the sale part!)

Glad to hear you’re a fan of Discourse, @AINZ_Corp. We chose this platform because it offers good usability and there’s a lot of options for extending the platform through plugins and customization.

Sounds like you have a lot of great irons in the fire with your work. Keep us up to date on all your projects!

@nick Thanks for the shout-out. We are happy to be here and have high hopes for this forum, pun intended.

Looking forward to many informative discussion here and we will start to participate once we come up for air after our new light launch. We noticed that excellent discussion on lighting technology, definitely a great read.

Cheers,

@Knights_Hemplar so glad you got to see us and the brand new light at CannaCon. Truly appreciate the compliment of it being the best panel, lots of lighting companies there. Although it was fun to have someone displaying DE HPS lights across the aisle so people could really compare the technologies.

Always fun to be up in Seattle. Such a fun city and the food scene is among my favorite in the country. Of course the people at the grow shows, not the business shows, are always fun to talk to and you can pick up such great information.

Perhaps our respective companies should have a chat about cannabis and web technology…

Hey all! My name Dana and I’m an owner and Co-founder of Triminator, we design and manufacture trimming and harvesting equipment for the growers. We’re a family run business based out of Northern California and have a great group of farmers and passionate enthusiasts our team. Prior to this I ran one of the largest solar companies in Colorado and did a fair bit of traveling and adventuring. These days, I’m either playing at Triminator, hanging with my wife and little dude, or out in the backcountry skiing or mountain biking. Looking forward to engaging with the community here.

Welcome @dana! I know a lot of dispensaries are picky about trimming. How does Triminator stack up against hand-trimming?
