great plant – Consider some defoliation ??? - some bud sites look really crowded

Thank you! We’re heavily debating removing the lowest 2 or 4 branches. They are within the first inch of the plant. The plant is a total of about 10 inches tall right now. 6 branches off main cola total. Main cola was topped about a week ago. Also we know we need to get into the heart of her and free up some air room as well.

Is she to little for a heavy defoliation like that?

Would you remove the first 2 or 4 bottom branches considering how low they are or should we heavily start LST training them outwards?

Ethos doesn’t defoliate till there are 5 nodes and then start out taking the lowest fan leaves in sets, consider taking off at least 2-3 sets (total of 6 leaves at 3 sets) and to be honest there needs to be more removed. I’m sure you will do this in time) hope this helps (GrowWeedEasy has a good section on defoliation)

So we just finished up and read your message. Hopefully we didn’t cut to much. To be completely honest it was nerve racking lol! We removed quite a bit (close to if not at 20%) and topped at 2 locations. Thank you! We’re learning bit by bit lol. Here’s the end result…

Seriously though thank you everyone for the input!!

Since ur running hydro u may wanna try bloom city pH pro. Fairly cheap and seems to hold a pH pretty well for me. I don’t run chillers or anything pH pro seems to only move .01 where as I use GH up and down and it moves between a whole point and 2 in a couple days. Bloom city a week later only moves .01 to .02 so far here.

remember the plant will look like “crap” but in a day or 2 you will see the good work you havr done also you will see the need to remove more fans - picture of after defolation ? Tip: feed plant after you defoliate they need it because of the stress

Just ordered! Yes we are using general hydrophonics and we’re seeing a .2 downward swing everyday. We add 3ml every morning to keep it between 6.0 to 6.3 for the day.

Hydro question @Mark0427 … So optimal ph is 5.5 to 5.8 (mostly what we see said). With that said… I believe I saw Cal and mag are absorbed at a ph of 6.0? Is that correct? What Ph do you aim for?

This is her this morning! We’re happy she seems to be happy! @HawkMan Do you feed via foliar spray?

Calmag will still be absorbed. I’m in coco I shoot for 5.5 to 6.3ish. Normally hang in 5.8 veg and raise it slowly inso in flower I usually run 6.1 6.2ish. Ur gonna have to try and keep the temps of the water under 70 if u can will help hold pH a bit better also. If u don’t have a chiller. Wrap the buckets so the heat cannot get to the pots as easy to warm stuff up. From time to time freeze pop bottles of water and drop some pop bottles in to help cool the rez down. Adding ice works but it alters the pH where plastic bottles frozen don’t harm the pH. Between 67 and like 72 max on water temps otherwise it causes all kinds of issues is why I stopped and went coco about the same treatments but with a medium. Root rot starts to happen if temps of the water gets too much over 70 as it starts to bind up nutes and stuff leaching them blobs to the roots causing harm. I can take the plant out of the. Bucket and get a bucket of water set up with peroxide in the bucket and dunk roots in the mix to help rid of the slimy brown and see if it stops the brown roots. Make sure u rinse roots off well before putting back in nutrient mix as peroxide will kill off beneficial stuff u need but it helps clean the roots and help them breathe ridding the slime off them. Don’t be rough. But if u have a detachable shower head use that on spray to rinse the roots as the little pressure will blast slime off roots if it’s there. Clean roots will help u see alot of difference in broth also. Sorry got high and rambling lol.
