Very cool! What have you found to be the most challenging part of this venture thus far?
Thanks @digicole
I believe somewhere in between having to stay up to date, especially because our industry keeps growing and changing so fast, and making the right calls as we plan our expansion.
I can appreciate that! What do you do to stay up to date and fully apprised of evolving market conditions and changes to rules and regulations?
I try to be involved in the community as much as possible. Always tuned to the OMMA official website to be compliant with the Oklahoma state laws. I really like to read the Ganjapreneur, MJ Freeway, MJBizDaily to name a few. I also approach this market as a investor, investing in companies and ETF´s related to Cannabis, so I really need to be active.
Hello growers network community !
I’m Jim Hipple, presently working with SaferGro , a research-oriented facility dedicated to the development of safe and organic products for commercial, and home grows.
I’m new to the Hemp and Cannabis Industry that began when I took this position with SaferGro in the spring of 2018.
For 35 years prior I owned and operated a wholesale nursery growing cut flowers and ornamental potted plants on the south central coast of California.
When I started my nursery operation in 1980 the greenhouse industry wasn’t nearly as regulated as it had become when I retired from it in the fall of 2015.
In the past year of working with SaferGro, I’ve enjoyed learning about this industry and have seen the passion of those involved in growing these amazing plants. Because of my past experiences ,it has given me a perspective and appreciation for the challenges that are now set before you.
So I am looking forward engaging with all aspects of this Hemp and Cannabis Industry on this growers network platform to learn more , and to understand how I can assist you all .
Hi Growers Network, great to be here!
My name is Darren, im the farm manager in Queensland, Australia for a company called Cannim. Im originally from New Zealand.
We’re just about to start building our first greenhouses for a licensed hemp grow. We’re limited at the moment to <0.5% THC, however our full medical license has been submitted and we expect to be growing high THC strains as well in 2020.
Im actually looking to purchase some CBD seeds at the moment, we already have some but it would be great to have as much variety to test as possible. Please let me know if you can point me in the right direction re seeds They need to be from a licensed seed producer due to our regulations.
I look forward to contributing to these forums and networking over time, very excited to be in the legal game now!
Welcome ! I work at SaferGro which is situated on the Gold Coast of California. Is your grow operation near Bisbane?
Welcome to the community ! A lot going on in Oklahoma this year. Are you planning to attend the CannaCon in September 27 & 28?
Hi Chris ! Welcome !
I’ve seen a lot of news about Hemp and Cannabis in Oklahoma this year. Are you planning to attend the CannaCon in September 27 & 28? There is a possibility that I may be going.
Welcome to the community.
So are you currently doing a grow?
Thanks, We did attend the Cannacon back in April and I was very pumped about the event. Cannot wait for the next edition.
Hi SaferGro I most likely will be there. Ive made it a point to make it to most of the Expos for networking and finding new techniques.
Sorry for the late welcome, @SaferGro; I just got back from a trip and jumped back on the forum. Better late than never, though!
Welcome to the community, @SaferGro! It is so great to have your 25+ years of greenhouse experience here on the GN forum. What was your favorite part of working in greenhouses? What do you miss most about the nursery since retirement?
Howdy, @queenslandmeds! Congrats on the license! Australia is making strides towards legalization and we all certainly you can burn one Down Under soon!
I recommend that you make a dedicated post on the forum and ask for some help. I suspect there are people in our forum community who can point you in the right direction of seed suppliers for your op.
Great to have you here
What I’d like to know is the size of the fish you caught while away?
Thanks for the welcome.
Growing plants should be a love, and it teaches us about life. One of the main things is that in this life of instant gratification , growing plants causes one to slow down, think about the steps you are taking, implement, and then wait and be patient.
Once you have grown cycles of crops and gone thru the process the best part is the reward that awaits once the crop is harvested!
Haha no fishing on this last trip, but I did catch a good buzz while I was in Colorado
Very wise words, my friend. So very true! Thanks for sharing your philosophy! The Dude abides.
What keeps you growing after all these years of professional cultivation? What keeps the passion alive?
After I sold the nursery in 2015 I now am involved in the plant business differently. Now with this position at SaferGro I have been able to continue that passion by learning all the ins and outs and challenges facing the Hemp and cannabis industry and how SaferGro products can assist in achieving that successful finished crop. It’s always fun to keep expanding one’s knowledge.
Welcome to the party @SaferGro looks like your experience will be great for discussions in the community!
Howdy Darren @queenslandmeds - Always nice to have more Kiwis in the community - can’t wait to hear about your grow operations and how I can get mild from “down under!”
